Hey, I'm Joel - a filmmaker and motion designer based in the UK.

For as long as I can remember, I have always loved making films and playing around with cameras. It started when my brothers and I picked up our Dad's hi8 camcorder as children, shooting our own plotless versions of gangster thrillers, zombie invasions and sci-fi mysteries (which have thankfully all been removed from the Youtube archive). Cut forward twenty years and I have six years of experience as director and co-founder of Woolgather Film Productions & SWAMP Films, a 1st class degree in Filmmaking from the Manchester School of Art, and my latest self-produced short documentary 'Frankenbiking' in seven film festivals so far.

After years of creating corporate videos, live-action social content, music videos and event coverage, the pandemic caused a shift towards more post-production work. As a result, the majority of my industry experience over the last few years has been through online agencies, utilising editing, motion graphics and creative direction to create short form social ads for dozens of well-known brands such as NOW, Adidas, eBay, TikTok, LinkedIn, Pringles and many more. Now, as a freelance creative I enjoy combining my broad skillset to direct and execute projects with attention to detail and creative flair. 

 

With a passion for nature, wildlife, sport and the outdoors, I’m happiest exploring new places or subjects with a camera in my hand and a meaningful story to tell. In spring/summer 2024 I will be completing a marine research, conservation and divemaster training program in Indonesia - opening up a new world for me to explore and beginning a lifelong dream of becoming an underwater camera operator. I believe there's nothing more important than broadening perspectives, exploring the unseen and the stewardship of our natural world.
